Diesel Jumps Another Three Cents

Diesel keeps rising, even as the US EIA predicts lower crude oil prices later this year and into 2026.

Diesel Jumps Another Three Cents

National Observations

  • Diesel kept rising last week across the nation, increasing just over 3 cents a gallon. This is the third week in a row of increases.
  • It's uncertain if we have reached the ceiling of the latest price increases. The latest short term outlook from the US Energy Information Administration is still calling for global crude oil prices to drop from the current $68/barrel to $50/barrel early next year. But noone is sure when this big drop will be reflected in diesel prices.

Regional Observations

  • The biggest regional jumps last week were in California and the rest of the West Coast. The latter was the biggest mover, going up an average of 5.1 cents a gallon.
  • The smallest change was in the Rocky Mountain area where it inched up just 0.1 cents/gallon. This is the first time in a while that diesel was cheaper in Rocky Mountain than in the Midwest area.
