LTL Freight Rates Inch Up
LTL freight rates took a promising upward turn in Q1 2025 compared to Q1 2024, even with a drop in overall tonnage

Key Observations
- While shipment volume and haul lengths rose, tonnage was down. The biggest drop was in tons per day, which slid by over 6 percent.
- Freight revenue per shipment and hundredweight was up slightly. The increases were higher without fuel surcharges, a sign that base freight rates are rising.
- Fuel surcharge recovery ratios dropped slightly. In Q1 2024, fuel surcharges represented 25.24% of total freight revenue. That dropped to 24.05% in Q1 2025.
